A ton of footage was shot for "The Walking Dead: Dead City" in New Jersey – including West Orange. WEST ORANGE, NJ — Zombie fans in New Jersey have an extra reason to check out the latest 'Walking Dead' spinoff show: a ton of footage was filmed in the state. That includes West Orange, where filming for 'The Walking Dead: Dead City' took place at South Mountain Reservation (the Turtle Back Rock Picnic Area). The production crew also rented space at Essex House in West Orange for use as basecamps and crew parking, according to the New Jersey Motion Picture and Television Commission.
